Travis Kelce was unable to attend the VMAs at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York due to work, according to a Page Six post. The music event happened on Wednesday night, September 11, and Swift was expected to have a great time.
An insider said to Page Six in an exclusive interview that the Kansas City tight end was unable to attend because “[Travis] had to be back in Kansas City by Tuesday for practice.”
The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals game scheduled for September 15 was mentioned by the source. The Week 2 football matchup between the teams is scheduled to begin at 4:25 p.m. ET.
This comes after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 in their Week 1 game.
Some internet users, who didn’t seem to be convinced by Page Six’s assertions, resorted to social media sites to state their opinions about Kelce’s true motivations for skipping the VMAs.
“I think he’s not at Taylor’s award [show] because he’s not interested in her,” a commenter suggested. His career is what interests him more. Another person added a humorous comment, saying, “He obviously doesn’t have time to have a matching dress made.”
Some appear to believe that Swift, the most nominated artist this year, and Kelce are about to call it quits based on Kelce’s apparent absence. “Alright now. One observer wrote, “Great loss beginning of the end…,” while another remarked, “The breakup we all heard was coming.”
Despite the opinions of some on the direction of the Hollywood pair’s relationship, neither Swift nor Kelce have discussed the possibility of an imminent breakup.
In fact, the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer gave her partner a special shoutout during her winning speech at the VMAs—far from hinting that a breakup was imminent.
Swift talked about how Travis Kelce encouraged her as they were filming the music video for “Fortnight,” following her acceptance of the Video of the Year award she shared with Post Malone.
“Something that I’ll always remember is that when I would finish a take and I’d say cut […] I would always just hear like someone like cheering and like, ‘Woo,’ like from across the studio, uhm, where we were shooting it, and that one person was my boyfriend Travis,” said the actress.
The crowd went crazy when she said his name and referred to him as her boyfriend. “Everything this man touches becomes joyful, enjoyable, and magical. I want to express my gratitude to him for included that in our photo session since I will never forget it,” Swift said.
Swift’s victory speech had a totally different response online than it did from the enthusiastic applause she received from the VMA crowd. Some online users appear to believe that the incident was part of a covert plan.
“She had to mention [Kelce], it’s part of the ‘arrangement,’” an Instagram user said. In a similar vein, another said, “‘[I’ll] always remember it.’ Their agreement is about to expire. 💀.”
Another onlooker remarked, “He is loving the fame. 😂,” while a third said, “I’m no longer a fan of hers! In actuality, it never was.”
Apart from winning Video of the Year, Swift was nominated for eleven more awards. In addition to Post Malone for the song “Fortnight,” these nominees included Song of the Year, Song of the Summer, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Collaboration.
For her smash song “You Belong With Me,” Taylor Swift was also nominated for Best Pop, Artist of the Year, and VMAs Most Iconic Performance.
